Abkhazi Garden, Victoria
Product: 60-40V Grid System
The historic Abkhazi Garden in Victoria undertook an upgrade to its main entrance pathway—one that needed to meet strict standards for accessibility, safety, and aesthetic harmony. With over 100,000 annual visitors and stewardship by The Land Conservancy of BC, this not-for-profit heritage site required a durable, fire lane-approved surface that would complement its lush surroundings.
CORE Landscape Products provided the solution with our CORE Gravel 60-40V grid system. Originally faced with cracked and uneven concrete, the garden replaced its entrance with a stabilized, fully permeable gravel surface that now offers seamless wheelchair accessibility and emergency vehicle support.
This upgrade not only improved visitor safety and access but also preserved the site's natural beauty. The permeable grid system allows rainwater to filter through, reducing runoff and helping recharge the groundwater—an essential consideration in a garden so closely tied to the landscape.
The Abkhazi Garden entrance is a powerful example of how thoughtful infrastructure can elevate historic spaces while meeting the needs of modern accessibility and environmental responsibility.
