We Wai Kai Nation Licensed Starbucks
Product: CORE Decor Privacy Screens
As one of only two First Nations–licensed Starbucks locations in Canada, the new We Wai Kai Starbucks in Campbell River stands as a symbol of cultural pride, community-led development, and economic empowerment. Operated by the We Wai Kai Nation, this Indigenous-owned store integrates both tradition and innovation—from the cedar-clad architecture to locally created artwork that shares the Nation’s creation story.
To enhance both privacy and aesthetics along the drive-thru lane, CORE Landscape Products partnered with the We Wai Kai community to produce a series of custom privacy screens. The screens were designed to complement the natural surroundings while reflecting the Nation’s visual identity. Made from durable, low-maintenance materials, the screens provide long-term performance with minimal environmental impact.
The installation demonstrates the versatility of CORE Decor privacy screens—used here not just for separation, but as a medium for cultural storytelling and place-making. In collaboration with the community, CORE ensured the screens aligned with the space’s functionality, values, and visual goals.
This project reinforces how thoughtful design can support Indigenous sovereignty, local art, and sustainability—all within the framework of a global brand.
